There is much subjective material disseminated about Model 21 shotguns. I would like the following information:
Manufacturer as specified on your Model 21.
Serial #, partial is not useful to this project, I want no ownership associated with any Model 21 for this Database. I have seen this type of Database become a useful tool for interested parties.
Rib Marking
gauge as marked on either the barrel, barrel flats or receiver flats.
Chokes as marked on barrels.
Chokes as constriction measured with an accurate tool.
Weight as measured with a digital scale.
Barrel(s) lenghts
Fore end
Type of grip
Grade if Custom Shop gun
Butt treatment
Engraving Style i.e 21-1 thru 21-6w/inlay or Custom, Pigeon, Grand American, Grand Royal.
Wood Carving Style

Dick, how do you get this information without a name showing?

Don, an analagous database is one prepared by Greg Reynolds for Orvis bamboo fly rods http://mysite.verizon.net/vze2h7gi/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/orvis.htm
Greg has been compiling this database from entries sent to him by Orvis bamboo owners for years. The records at Orvis are in book form and never have been digitzed but are availabe if one calls Orvis and asks for the details of a rod by serial #. It would be the same with this database, the entries will be by serial # and no owners associated with an entry. The database should be useful for comparison of the Model 21's that are out there. Since Cody owns the Winchester records and derives a certain income from this information, it would against thier financial interests to have this information available to the public. -Dick

So, if everyone sends in the information about their 21s and it goes into this database, will everyone be able to view all the info about the 21s (except for their names)?

Yes, the Database will be open to anyone that wants peruse it.
If you look at the Orvis Database maintained by Greg Reynolds you can glean a lot of information about when a rod was manufactured and features. Right now the information for Winchester Model 21's resides in Cody and is not readily available and other Model 21 information is not available at all.
Since names are not wanted and/or linked to serial #'s, I hope any security concerns are alleviated.-Dick
So we should send this info to you via pm or email??

You can send the information by PM or you can Post, whichever you feel comfortable with. This project will take some time but hopefully will begin to yield information. I will build the database and have it available for reference within this forum. Thanks for your help!-Dick
