16 Gauge, Markings usually used after 1937 and before 1945 referred as the Third Variation

12 Gauge, Markings used after 1945, referred to as Fourth Variation
It is not unsual to see Third Variation Markings on barrels of guns produced after 1945 as Winchester kept parts in stock and used them as the need arose.

They are very nice, indeed. The wood interests me. In my experience, which is certainly not uniform, many of the stocks on 21s I've come across from that vintage seem honey colored, almost yellow. My father contests my viewpoint, of course. In any event, these shotguns are spectacular.
