Three of us spent the morning shooting Game Farm pheseant, a few chukers left over from other hunters and having a very nice time. My son used a Browning Superposed SuperLight 26&1/2" 20 gauge, my brother-in-law, a new CSMC RBL28 with 26" barrels, and my self, a 'Baby' frame CSMC Model 21 in 28 gauge. My brother-in-law, an excellent shot did quite well with 3/4oz, 7&1/2loads. I started with Fiocchi 'Golden Pheseant' 7&1/2 but since both dogs were flushing labs and they were ranging far, the shots were long and I was not getting the expected performance I wanted. I quickly changed to Rio 3/4oz #6 loads and the birds were mostly dead in that air. One shot with the Mod barrel was almost 40 yds going away and by the time the bird dumped on the ground, at least 50 yds. So far away in fact, that the dogs in thier retrieve flushed another pheseant and a covey of chuckers that we were to far to shoot.
The RBL 28 weighed 5# 10.7oz, the 'Baby' Model 21, 5# 13oz and the SuperLight, 5# 10.2oz.
At $4K as optioned, compared to the price of the 'Baby' Model 21, the RBL28 is a tremendous value and certainly shoots just as well.
Since i am still in the film era using Kodachrome, pictures must wait for developement and scan by the lab, but when ready I will Post them.
Until then, its pheseant breast tommorow.-Dick
