I've been directed here to ask this question of you guys. I have found two Model 21's that I am interested in and don't want to loose my rear-end over them. They are exactly alike and this one is the 90% gun. Gun is Trap serial 320xx. Vent rib. The big question as you can see is : Did Winchester or would they put a Hydro-Coil stock system on a model 21? Guy is askin about 5k for this one and a little more for the other as it is about 95%. Tell me what you guys think if you don't mind.

Thanks,Mike

Mike, I've digested all the information and pictures you have supplied about this Model 21 Trap and offer the following assesment.
If you are purchasing the gun because you will use it and like the Hydra-Coil feature, then it may be for you. If because it is a rare gun and feature, since it is not Winchester original, who knows what you would get for the gun in the future?
I note that in another Forum you say it 'letters' but does not mention the Hydra-Coil feature. This means only there is a Cody record of the gun and that the gun was probably a normal made for stock(inventory) gun.
Restocking a Model 21 can be expensive if you decide you don't like the Hydra-Coil feature or it fails at some time and cannot be fixed, at least $2K.
From the checkering, I would say it was a 1950's gun. What does the Cody letter tell you?
Personally, unless you are a devotee of the Hydra-Coil, I would purchase a standard Model 21 Trap, there are many around. Hope all this helps.-Dick

The gun was a made for stock according to Winchester. It also said DOM as 1958. Well I do appreciate the input.
