Being somewhat new to the Winchester Model 21; I have a lubrication question.

The frame and its operating components are fairly "sealed" to the elements in the 21 design..

Some have told me it doesn't need additional lubrication..

An old Winchester instruction says a "light oil" can be applied through the firing pin holes and alongside the trigger assembly. Winchester warns of viscous oils (like presevatives) being a possible problem on single trigger components.

I like a light oil application applied to trigger/sear parts by choice. I would NOT like any disassembly for periodic lubrication.

What do you gentlemen do as to internal lubrication on your Model 21's?

Thanks, Slidehammer

Nothing.
If a problem develops, then the action would be lubricated at the time of service.
I do spray the guns with Barricade, a Birchwood Casey product.
I have seen this type of question develop in a number of different areas with some saying that lubrication is needed at some interval but disassembly is fraught with problems if not familiar with product and one can introduce dirt and contaminants if not careful.
I was told by many to service my Rolex every few years. It has run 30 years with no problem.
My Volvo transmission requires no fluid chnages but a few are adamant about changing the fluid. I suspect down the road a few damaged transmissions from improper fluid changing.
I did have my 1964 Leica M3 serviced after a Leica tech verified all speeds within spec but told me that basically the internals were dry after 30 years of service.
I realise the need/want to make sure your gun will continue to perform and not be neglected but that need must be balanced by sound reasoning about what is required.-Dick
